16 players attend Newark, OH's The Comic Shop Plus

by John Loy

The HMGS-GL 5th Annual Big Battle DBA Tournament was held on August 5th at The Comic Shop Plus in Newark, Ohio. There was an excellent turnout of 16 players; including some first timers. We divided into equal early and late brackets; but some late arrivals all fit into the late bracket, which made it a 6-10 split. Two players were only available for 2 rounds. Mike Demana swept the early bracket at 3-0 and Mike Stelzer won the late bracket at 3-0.

Overall Results were:

Mike Demana 3-0 282pts. Macedonian Early Successor
Mike Stelzer 3-0 279pts. Late Imperial Roman West
Jenny Torbett 2-1 209pts. Teutonic Order
John Loy 2-1 192pts. Ancient Spanish
Joe Merz 2-1 190pts. Early Crusader
Tim Ryan 2-1 186pts. Ming Chinese
Tom Graves 2-1 178pts. Seleucid
John Lawitzke 2-1 171pts. New Kingdom Egyptian
Rich Hartley 1-2 131pts. Later Sargonid w/Skythian Ally
Terry Hollern 1-2 105pts. Later Carthagenian w/Siciliot Ally
Eric Vang 1-2 99pts. Italian Condotta w/ Later Swiss Ally
Brian Woolard 1-1 94pts. -2 rounds Post Mongol Samurai
Jim Chapin 1-1 82pts. -2 rounds Mongol
Lowell Lufkin 0-3 42pts. Numidian
Lowell Lufkin Jr. 0-3 30pts. Macedonian Early Successor w/Ptolemaic Ally
Andrew Lufkin 0-3 24pts. Late Imperial Roman West w/ Alan Ally

All in all a good time and as a bonus we signed up 2 new members for Great Lakes. The Comic Shop Plus was a good facility with enough room for even more pairings. Hopefully this can turn into a regular event. BBDBA does qualify for the NICT; so Mike, Mike and Jenny all qualify for next year. Wish you could all have been here.

OH YEAH; this breaks the string of no repeat winners. Mike Demana breaks the curse.
