GM Eric Luczaj at the end of the table supervises the
carnage as (clockwise from left) Ted Hall, Eric Vang, Jacob Bonaparte, Mike
Cole, Steve Cole and Tom Graves engage in slaughter of DBA armies
Cole is King in "Wars of Aggression"
While we wait for Eric Luczaj's official report from his Wars of Aggression
DBA Tournament, I'd thought I'd go ahead and put up some photos. Steve Cole
was definitely "king for a day" as he won both Eric's tournament
at Warband, but also the Hordes of the Things tournament later that afternoon.
The Wars of Aggressioin format rewards players for slaughter on both sides
-- a 4-3 victory scoring many more points than a simple 4-0 one. Steve got
off to a great start in round one of the tourney, slapping around his older
brother Mike Cole and tallying up 35 points. He kept putting up the points
in the subsequent rounds, giving no one a chance to catch him. This was
Eric's second time running this format -- the first was at Warparty 2006.
The format is light hearted and fun, and a definite change of pace from
the standard DBA Tourney. -- Mike Demana
GM Eric Luczaj's Report:
- Beware!
- The Cole Brothers doth come.
- Prepare to fight!
- Sword and spear, club and bow
- Fear their might!
- The Cole Brothers doth come.
- Beware!
This weekend's Warband featured 12 players competing in Wars of Aggression
II: "I'm not Dead Yet!" The participants played four rounds of
DBA, using a scoring system that rewarded aggressive, hard-fought battles
and keeps the final outcomes up for grabs right down until the last element
leaves the table.
The smack talk started before the matches began, but Steve Cole got
the upper hand early with a grudge match against his brother Mike. Jeff
Chattin held off a one-two Cole finish by sacking the Eastern Forest Indians'
camp in the last round. The "Prize of Peace" went to Ted Hall,
whose Marian Romans attempted to impose the Pax Romana on the rest of the
crowd.
Many thanks to all the participants. The final standings are below:
Name/Army/Points/Elements Destroyed-(Enemy/Own)/Record
- Steve Cole, Early Visigoth, 102 pts., 27 elements (13/14), 1-3

"King" Cole and his Early Visigothic army
prepare to wade into Tom Graves' Christian Nubians, while beside him, Jacob
Louis Bonaparte (great name for a gamer, eh?) learns the ropes at DBA

"Gimme a Six!" Jacob Louis Bonaparte rolls
his dice against Eric Vang, while Ted Hall and Eric Luczaj watch the action

Tim Ryan moves his troops forward as Aaron McKibben
ponders the tactical situation

Close up of Mike Demana's Malays...Elephants and Warbands
slew heaps of enemies that day, receiving their own share of carnage, as
well...
